Keeping Clean Your Way!Friday - Sunday Weekend Workshop Overview
March 12-14, 2010
Instructor: R.G. "Tim" Tyndall
Location: John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina outside Murphy in western North Carolina, where the states of NC, GA and TN all come together.
Create soap that smells and feels just right for you. Cold-process soap made with natural ingredients is ideal for getting totally away from harsh commercial detergent products. We'll cover basic processes, fat/oil ingredient options, safety procedures, equipment choices, basic herbal and fragrance options, and curing requirements. See and handle a variety of demonstration soaps and take home 4-8 pounds of handmade product. Ideal for beginning soapers or those with limited experience.
Your instructor for this handmade soap making workshop is Dr. "Tim" Tyndall. “Dr T” is actually a science professor by education and training, having been a science teacher and college administrator for 30 years in chemistry, biology, botany and health sciences. Tim has been making and selling handmade soap for the last twelve years here at The Blue Ridge Soap Shed.
This is a true, hands-on workshop with YOU making soap! Tim will demonstrate proper safety and soapmaking procedures by making the first batch himself in each class - but then it's your turn! Learn how to crunch those numbers and SAP values for each oil and butter and create and test your own recipes, calculating your batch sizes and mold sizes.
